The Winthrop University volleyball team, the Winthrop Eagles, lost a five-set match to Davidson College at John M. Belk Arena on Friday night, August 28, 2026. The final score was 3-2.

Paige Bennett, a key player for the Rock Hill-based Winthrop Eagles, achieved a new career-high with 22 kills and added 12 digs. Teagan Sychterz contributed nine kills and six block assists, while Addison Torain tallied 22 digs.

Davidson took the first set 25-22, despite Bennett’s efforts to narrow the gap with multiple kills. Winthrop responded in the second set with a 25-21 victory, where Bennett again played a pivotal role with kills and service aces. Sychterz secured the set-winning point, assisted by Alyah Cadavid.

Davidson then claimed the third set 25-15, establishing an early lead that Winthrop could not overcome. The Eagles fought back in the fourth set, winning 25-18, with Laila Glover and Bennett contributing multiple kills. Cadavid’s service ace shifted momentum, and Sychterz’s blocking and serving extended their advantage.

The decisive fifth set was closely contested, with both teams exchanging leads. Bennett delivered a service ace to bring the score to 14-12, but Davidson ultimately clinched the set 18-16, securing the match victory.
