# Volunteers Assemble Donations for Local Charities

More than sixty women from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gathered in Rock Hill on Friday, August 21, to prepare donations for four local charities in anticipation of the National Day of Service on September 11. These volunteers, representing congregations from York to Lancaster and Fort Mill to Chester, brought food donations and assembled various items to support community needs.

The effort resulted in nearly 100 inspirational hearts for Preemies of the Carolinas and 129 flashcard sets for Classroom Central, an organization providing free school supplies to teachers and students in high-need schools within the Charlotte area. Additionally, 17 dozen cookie balls were prepared and frozen for Defend the Fatherless, a York County-based charity that supports foster, adoptive, and kinship families caring for children in crisis.

Food donations, including canned meat, beans, and vegetables, were used to create 117 meal kits for patrons of the Fort Mill Care Center. Candice Fairbanks, Director of the Fort Mill Care Center, expressed gratitude for the generous contribution, noting that each kit provides ingredients for a complete, nutritious meal, offering a convenient dinner option for families and making a meaningful difference for those experiencing food insecurity.

Marcia Ennis, President of the Relief Society in York, Chester, and Lancaster counties, described the evening as a joy, emphasizing the spirit of love and friendship among the women serving their community. Jeanie Moore of Lake Wylie, an attendee, also shared that she felt blessed by the friendly atmosphere. Local leaders of the Relief Society, the Church’s international women’s organization, will deliver the collected items to the various charities this September, coinciding with the National Day of Service. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a global faith with over 17 million members and 46,500 members attending 83 congregations in South Carolina.
