FORT MILL, S.C. — Carowinds in Fort Mill, S.C., has closed two of its biggest roller coasters, Fury 325 and Thunder Striker, after a rider died on a coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday.

A man died after he fell from the 200-foot-tall Goliath roller coaster at the Georgia park, and four other people were injured. The incident is under investigation. Six Flags closed nine coasters across its parks, all designed and built by Bolliger & Mabillard, the same company that made Goliath.

Six Flags does not have a timeline for reopening the rides, according to a company spokesperson.

Fury 325 is advertised as North America’s longest steel coaster. According to Carowinds, it is 6,600 feet long, has a top elevation of 325 feet and a top speed of 95 mph. Thunder Striker has a top speed of 80 mph, according to the park website.

Carowinds sits on the North Carolina and South Carolina state line, with half of the 400-acre park in Charlotte and half in Fort Mill. The park is open Thursday through Sunday this month and opens 6 p.m. to midnight Thursday for its Halloween-themed SCarowinds event.
