ROCK HILL, S.C. — A 4-acre block near downtown Rock Hill has changed hands, and the buyer appears to be connected to one of the Carolinas’ largest hospital systems. Comporium, the hometown telecom company, sold eight properties on Oct. 13 for $3.5 million to AH South Carolina, Inc., a Charlotte-based entity that shares a mailing address with Atrium Health, York County land records show.

The site fronts Dave Lyle Boulevard, with Trade Street and Willowbrook Avenue on its other sides, and now holds a Comporium building and parking. Atrium has not said what it plans for the land, and a message to the hospital system was not immediately returned.

Comporium is headquartered in Rock Hill and ranks among the city’s biggest employers, so any reuse of its property draws attention downtown.

A medical use would fit a broader push by Atrium into York County. The system announced last December a $450 million acute care hospital in Fort Mill with 60 beds and 15 emergency bays, targeted for completion by 2029, citing the number of South Carolina patients who now cross the state line to its Pineville hospital.

Rival systems are building nearby too. In Rock Hill itself, Novant Health is planning a $300 million campus at Palmetto Research Park.
