ROCK HILL, S.C. — Cross country runners from Rock Hill’s Winthrop University head up Interstate 85 on Friday, Oct. 30, for the Big South Conference Championships, a meet USC Upstate is hosting on its home course at the Milliken Research Center in Spartanburg.

The women’s 5K starts at 9:00 a.m., and the men’s 8K follows at 9:45 a.m. All nine Big South schools are entered. The 14 fastest individuals in each race earn All-Conference medals, with places one through seven named to the first team and eight through 14 to the second team.

Anna Conrad comes in as the Eagles’ top threat on the women’s side. She was named Big South Runner of the Week for Oct. 15-18 after placing eighth in 17:38.2, a personal best, and teammate Janie Spicer was right behind her in 10th at 17:39.3 in that same race.

Spencer Shealy has paced the Winthrop men, leading the team in 49th place in 25:13.2 last time out, also a personal best.

The course is familiar ground for the host Spartans, who ran there at the Upstate Invite on Oct. 17. An awards ceremony is planned for 10:45 a.m.
