ROCK HILL, S.C. — Runners and walkers in Rock Hill can trade their usual gear for Santa hats and antlers next month when the Reindeer Run comes back for a third year to raise money for a local disaster relief group.

Crisis Response International, which has its headquarters in Rock Hill, will stage the race Saturday, Dec. 5. Racers line up at 1307 Riverwalk Parkway, home of the city’s Criterium Course. The Transamerica Foundation is the presenting sponsor.

The morning has three options. The 4.01K covers about 2.5 miles and is the costume run open to every pace. The 10K takes runners around the course about five and a half times, and the Reindeer Relay sends teams of four out on one 1.1-mile loop apiece. A kids costume contest is scheduled from 10 to 10:30 a.m. near the start and finish area.

After the races, people can look over the equipment the group’s teams carry into disaster zones and talk with its responders.

York County residents Sean and Laura Malone started the nonprofit in 2007. It says it has trained more than 20,000 responders over the past two decades, and after Hurricane Helene its volunteers spent three months helping families around Asheville, N.C., recover.

Packet pickup is Dec. 4 from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Charlotte Running Company, 652 Herrons Ferry Road, Suite 101.
