Rock Hill Parking Lot Shooting Suspect Turns Himself In

Rock Hill, South Carolina — The alleged triggerman in a shooting incident that occurred in August has turned himself into the authorities. Jerrique Tavrone Markez Dunham, a 19-year-old from Rock Hill, surrendered to police on Sunday, almost a month after the violence unfolded.

What Happened

The shooting took place on August 30, when an 18-year-old victim was shot in the head in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant, located across from the Winthrop University campus. According to a statement from the Rock Hill Police Department, the incident happened during what police believe was a gun sale.

Who Was Involved

The victim’s identity has not been disclosed, but he was previously reported to be in stable condition after being hospitalized. As for Dunham, he is facing serious charges, including attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Following the shooting, authorities sought Dunham for almost a month before he surrendered.

Where and When It Occurred

This alarming event occurred in a public area where many community members pass by, right across Cherry Road from the Winthrop University campus in Rock Hill. Classes had just commenced for the fall semester, amplifying concerns about safety in the area.

Investigative Details

Police Lt. Michael Chavis provided insights into the investigation, revealing that Dunham has also been charged with two counts of shooting into a dwelling from a previous incident. However, details about that separate incident have not been disclosed. Additionally, Dunham’s brother, Jameson Larone Dunham, 20, was arrested earlier on an accessory charge related to the McDonald’s shooting.

Current Situation

Both suspects currently remain in the York County Jail, and it is unclear at this time when they will appear in court. The authorities continue to investigate the events surrounding the shooting. Community members have expressed their concerns regarding safety in the area, particularly with the start of the new school year.

Conclusion

The situation remains under close scrutiny as law enforcement continues to gather information. Rock Hill’s police department is encouraging anyone with additional details about the shooting to come forward. As the community reflects on this troubling incident, residents hope for a swift and just resolution.
