Rock Hill, S.C. – Winthrop split a doubleheader with the Radford Highlanders Sunday afternoon with an 8-6 victory in the first game and then falling 5-4 in the second game. The first game was the resumption of a suspended game due to rain in the 2nd inning Friday afternoon. Winthrop moves to 16-25-1 overall and 5-12 in the Big South.
In the first game, Jaylen Hernandez’s heroics at the plate, including a three-run blast, helped Winthrop secure the win with solid contributions from Badillo and Wilson.
The Eagles made a late rally in the second game, led by Chronis’s home run, but fell just short against Radford’s strong performance.
Winthrop has its sights set on a re-match with South Carolina on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. as they look to bounce back from the split doubleheader against Radford.
