Rock Hill, SC – A man is dead, and a woman is recovering after a shooting connected to a drug deal that took place on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of Amelia Avenue when the victims were allegedly meeting a suspect for an illegal narcotics sale.

According to local authorities, as the victims were sitting in their vehicle, the suspect approached and opened fire. Both individuals were shot in the process, with the woman suffering injuries to her head and the man being hit with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene, while the woman was transported to Piedmont Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

As of now, police have not publicly identified the victims involved in this tragic event. The shooter fled the scene in an unknown direction, prompting an active investigation by law enforcement to identify and locate the suspect.

This shooting is the latest in a series of violent incidents relating to drug deals within Rock Hill. Less than a week earlier, on Sunday, November 3, 2024, another individual was shot during an alleged drug deal. That incident occurred around 12:10 a.m. along Saluda Street near Albright Road. The victim, also found with a gunshot wound to the head, was rushed to Piedmont Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries on November 8, 2024.

In this earlier incident, police apprehended two suspects, 21-year-old Christopher King Boyd and 19-year-old Demetris Franklin, who were present at the scene in a black pickup truck. The suspects initially claimed that the victim attempted to rob them, but an investigation revealed that they had arranged to sell drugs to the victim.

The confrontation escalated when the victim, who was armed with a handgun, was shot by Franklin. Both Boyd and Franklin initially faced charges such as assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, along with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Following the victim’s death, authorities updated the charges against Boyd and Franklin to include murder. Notably, Franklin was already in custody at the Moss Justice Detention Center when the murder warrant was issued.

Law enforcement officials have been taking measures to address the rise in violent crime associated with drug activities in the area. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug dealings. The police department continues to investigate the recent incidents and is encouraging residents to provide any information that could assist in apprehending suspects involved in these crimes.

As the investigation unfolds regarding the shooters in both incidents, Rock Hill residents are reminded of the potential dangers associated with drug-related activities, emphasizing the need for community safety and cooperation with local authorities.
