A reception will follow in the church’s Fellowship Hall, with interment scheduled to be private.
Phyllis was born on August 19, 1953, in Chester, South Carolina, as the daughter of the late Carl and Sara Lou McCaston. She graduated from Great Falls High School and further pursued higher education at Winthrop University and Francis Marion University, cementing her commitment to learning and education. Known for her dedication to teaching, Phyllis spent many years at Great Falls Middle School, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless students and colleagues throughout her career. Her contributions to the Chester County School District were significant, and she retired with a legacy of academic excellence and mentorship.
Her strong ties to the Great Falls community extended beyond her profession. Phyllis was a devoted member of Great Falls Presbyterian Church, where she fostered a sense of community, faith, and fellowship. She became well-known within the congregation for her kindness and sense of service, qualities that endeared her to many.
Phyllis Bull is survived by her husband of 29 years, James (Jim) Hamilton Bull. Together, they created a loving household that included her children, Michelle Smith (Todd) and Jamie Simpson (Jada). Phyllis also embraced her role as a stepmother to Jane Hudson (David) of Lancaster and Diane Alexander (Clint) of Rock Hill. As a grandmother, known affectionately as “Granna,” she took great joy in her grandchildren: Nathan (Jenny), Jacob, Abbie-Grace, Ayla, Meredith, Graham, and Madelyn. Recently, she celebrated the arrival of her great-granddaughter, Finley, who added to her joy and fulfillment in life.
Alongside her immediate family, Phyllis is survived by her sisters, Melinda Hunter (Joe) and Karen McCaston. She held a special place in the hearts of her numerous nieces and nephews, who cherished their time with her and will remember her as a loving and nurturing figure in their lives.
The services for Phyllis Bull are being arranged by Dunbar Funeral Home – Northeast Chapel, where the Bull family is being supported during this time of loss. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Great Falls Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 466, Great Falls, SC 29055, in honor of Phyllis’s legacy and her devotion to her community.
