Participants can vote for their favorite finalists on Instagram. The contest highlights the growing popularity of small, studio-based businesses among beauty professionals.

Los Angeles, CA – American Salon and American Spa have announced the launch of a new contest titled “The Suite Spot 2025: The Most Instagrammable Salon or Spa Suite.” This initiative aims to recognize and celebrate the innovative spirit of microbusinesses in the beauty and wellness industry, which have significantly transformed the landscape of personal care in the United States over the past decade.

As more professionals in the beauty sector opt for independence, the trend of working in single-room studios or salon suites continues to rise. Salon and spa professionals are increasingly leaving larger establishments to establish their own microbusinesses, either as solopreneurs or in partnerships. This shift reflects a growing desire for autonomy and creativity among beauty and wellness professionals.

The contest will feature 15 finalist salon or spa suites, and voting for these finalists will take place via the Instagram accounts of American Salon and American Spa. Voting is set to commence at noon ET on Thursday, June 19, and will close on Friday, June 27. The winner will be revealed on Monday, June 30. The top vote-getter will not only gain various salon and spa prizes but will also enjoy the distinction of being recognized for their innovative space.

Participants and the general public can view all entries by utilizing the hashtag #suitespot2025 on Instagram. The final contenders include a diverse array of establishments such as:

In conjunction with the contest, Sola Salon Studios recently achieved a milestone by opening its 700th location. This makes Sola the largest salon studio franchise in the country, accommodating more than 20,000 professionals who rent their own suites. The company is expanding rapidly and plans to develop 26 additional locations across states including California, Texas, Michigan, and South Carolina.

The “booth rentals” micro-business model gained popularity after Sola’s first dedicated suite opened in 2004, and the trend saw a significant upswing post-pandemic. This shift has led to a proliferation of new salon suite locations, as professionals look for flexible and independent work environments that suit their needs. Sola’s closest competitors, Phenix Salon Suites and MY SALON Suite, continue to expand as well, with respective operations of over 375 and 300 locations in North America.

The 700th location, located in a Minneapolis suburb, boasts 65 salon studios, with 54 already pre-leased before its official opening day. The milestone reflects not only Sola’s success but also the broader trend of empowerment among independent beauty professionals.

The contest “The Suite Spot 2025” highlights the creativity and innovation driving the future of the beauty and wellness industry, as well as the ongoing shift towards microbusinesses that cater to personal style and client relationships.
