Stillwater Welcomes Wrestling Star Roman Bravo-Young
Stillwater, OK – In a significant move for the Cowboy wrestling program, Roman Bravo-Young, a former two-time NCAA champion and recent Olympian, is set to join the Oklahoma State regional training center, Cowboy RTC. This announcement came on Saturday night, shortly after Bravo-Young made his Olympic debut in Paris while competing for Mexico at 57 kilograms.
Bravo-Young, who previously dominated the NCAA scene at 133 pounds for Penn State, will now train alongside OSU wrestlers, marking a fresh chapter in both his career and the Cowboys’ program. The details about whether Bravo-Young will take on a coaching role remain uncertain, but his presence alone could provide valuable insights and experience to younger athletes.
David Taylor, the new head coach of the Cowboys’ wrestling program, expressed enthusiasm about enhancing the RTC. At his introductory press conference, he emphasized that adding high-profile competitors like Bravo-Young is not just talk, but a step towards strengthening the foundation of the program. “As we continue to build out the RTC, it’s going to be selected with the right group of people,” said Taylor.
Another notable name expected to play a role in Cowboy RTC is Daton Fix, a talented wrestler who Taylor indicated they are committed to supporting. “We’re excited about Daton. I’m extremely excited about helping him,” Taylor added, showing his determination to create a solid training environment for athletes aiming for world and Olympic titles.
Bravo-Young’s impressive credentials speak for themselves. He finished his collegiate career with a record of 100-10, clinching three Big Ten titles and being a four-time All-American. His addition to the Cowboy RTC promises not only to elevate the training experience for current OSU wrestlers but also to inspire the next generation of champions.
As the Cowboys eye the future under Taylor’s leadership, fans and followers of OSU wrestling eagerly await this exciting new era.
