Eagles Prepare for Final Roster Cuts as NFL Preseason Draws to a Close

Eagles Nest Preparation

Philadelphia is buzzing as the NFL preseason winds down and the deadline for roster cuts approaches. Teams across the league, including the Eagles, have until 4:00 PM Eastern on Tuesday, August 27 to finalize their 53-player rosters. As the clock ticks, fans can expect various moves from the Eagles that could shape their squad for the upcoming season.

Current updates show that the Eagles have already started their roster decisions. Notably, at 7:52 PM, the team announced they are waiving offensive lineman Jason Poe, who joined the team late in training camp to address injuries along the offensive line. Additionally, they reached an injury settlement with defensive back Mekhi Garner.

Earlier in the day, at 5:10 PM, it was revealed that quarterback Will Grier, who had received favorable comments from head coach Nick Sirianni, was also among those released. The Eagles are actively working through their cuts, aiming to settle on their final roster.

As of 4:36 PM, concerns were raised about rookie wide receiver Ainias Smith, who reportedly suffered an injury during the final preseason game. An MRI is scheduled, possibly impacting his roster status.

The cuts continued throughout the day, with wide receivers Austin Watkins and Griffin Hebert among those released at 1:05 PM. Linebacker Julian Okwara and cornerback Parry Nickerson also faced similar fates before the deadline.

As the Eagles navigate these crucial roster decisions, fans are left anticipating who will make the final cut. It’s a tense time in Philadelphia, with the team tasked to finalize their lineup as they gear up for the 2024 season.

Stay tuned as updates continue to unfold leading up to the deadline.
