Cornfield Sunset Victory

In Lincoln, Nebraska, the Nebraska Cornhuskers secured a thrilling victory over the Purdue Boilermakers in a hard-fought match that went the distance, ending with a final score of 3-2. This win marks Nebraska’s 35th consecutive victory at home, maintaining their status as the team with the longest active home win streak in the nation.

Despite a strong effort from Purdue, who has struggled on the road against Nebraska, the Boilermakers remain winless in their last seven matches played in Lincoln. Their last victory over the Cornhuskers in their home arena dates back to 2013.

Throughout the match, neither team was able to pull away, with each set being closely contested and decided by three points or less. Nebraska started strong, winning the first set 25-22. However, Purdue responded by clinching the second and third sets, both by tight margins, with a total difference of just five points.

In a dramatic fifth set, Purdue found themselves with a match point, up 15-14. But the Cornhuskers rallied back, ultimately winning the final set 17-15. Nebraska’s performance was highlighted by Merritt Beason, who recorded a season-high of 22 kills, contributing significantly to the victory.

In terms of statistics, Purdue boasted a hitting percentage of .311, outperforming Nebraska’s .242. However, the Boilermakers struggled with discipline, tallying 19 service errors compared to Nebraska’s 7. This victory improved Nebraska’s season record to 15-1, and they remain undefeated in the Big Ten at 5-0.
