Oklahoma Prepares for New SEC Challenge
As Oklahoma gears up for the start of college football, its basketball program is switching gears and diving into preseason training. Head coach Porter Moser faces an exciting yet daunting task—preparing his team for their debut season in the revamped SEC (Southeastern Conference). Moser is keen to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.
“Trust me, I’ve been fired up since Selection Sunday,” Moser said during an interview on SEC Now. He reflected on the mixed emotions after last season ended in disappointment, with the team missing the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year. “I’m excited to get going again, to get this feeling out of my gut, just to compete and grow the team in the new league.”
Last season was a bit of a roller coaster for Oklahoma, as they recorded 20 wins but still fell short of a spot in the tournament. Moser is aware that building a successful program takes time. “I think it’s a journey,” he shared. He recently wrapped up the team’s first workout, indicating the beginning of their **eight weeks of summer** training. “I like the makeup of our guys in terms of their work ethic, their willingness to come in and listen and be coached,” he added.
Moser is also keenly observing his competition. He recognizes that every team in the SEC will pose a potent challenge on any given night. The transfer portal has added another layer of competition, with many teams enhancing their rosters significantly. “We’re following this thing, so we know who’s loading up,” he explained, showing his understanding of the dynamics in the league.
However, with so many new faces on various teams, one question remains: How well can these players mesh together? “That’s what you don’t know,” Moser acknowledged. “The SEC hit grand slams in recruiting, and I feel really good about what we did too.”
As Oklahoma steps into the SEC, Coach Moser remains hopeful and focused, ready to tackle the challenges of the new season ahead.
