Born on June 17, 1969, in Greenville, SC, Smith moved to Rock Hill at the age of three. He attended Rock Hill High School, where he actively participated in the ROTC program. After high school, he pursued his passion for Ministry at Liberty University, instilling a strong foundation for his future work as a pastor.

Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Barton Smith Jr. and Elizabeth Ann Anderson Smith, as well as his Uncle Max Reid Anderson and both sets of grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Sanders-Smith, along with his four children: Melanie Jo Trammell (Conley) of Union, SC; Richard Beckham (Melissa) of Chester, SC; and his twin daughters, Marie Jordan (Brandon) of Rock Hill, SC, and Noel Harnish (James). Additionally, his step-son Frankie Sanders (Brittany) resides in Rock Hill, along with several grandchildren.

Throughout his life, Smith faced numerous challenges but ultimately found faith in God, which became the cornerstone of his existence. His eclectic career included roles as a York County Deputy, a wrestling referee, a security guard, a call center employee, and eventually, a pastor who served multiple churches in the Rock Hill area.

Smith was passionate about music; he enjoyed singing in a quartet and often harmonized with his twin daughters on classic gospel songs. In his later years, despite facing blindness, he continued to engage with music and technology, finding joy in interacting with his electronic assistant, Alexia. He lived on the Catawba Indian Reservation with his wife and supported her involvement with the Women of the River Drum Group.

Smith’s love for family was evident in his relationships with his grandchildren, who often helped him after school. He also had support animals, including a dog named Dollie and a cat named Boo, which added joy to his home. His interests included a fondness for John Wayne movies and the soft drink Mello Yellow.

In gratitude for the care provided to him, his family recognized the support given by Shannon Totherow and Allegra Payne Thomas. In lieu of flowers, they are requesting donations be made to the Catawba Indian Nation Children and Teen Center to honor Smith’s legacy of community support.
