Legion Collegiate Makes a Comeback!

Legion Collegiate is set to rejoin the SCHSL as an at-large member starting July 1. This is great news for the school and its students! The SCHSL executive committee voted overwhelmingly with a 10-1 majority for this decision.

However, don’t expect Legion to participate in next year’s playoffs as new rules prevent first-year schools from playoff participation. As an at-large member, they won’t compete in sports that require region play but will be able to take part in golf and swimming.

Legion currently boasts seven boys’ and seven girls’ sports and is even looking to add cross country to the mix. It’s important to note that Legion has 637 students and, while located in the South Pointe attendance zone, it attracts a diverse student body from Fort Mill, Indian Land, and Lancaster.

The school has taken steps to shift its focus towards academics, moving away from its previous sports-centric image and discontinuing its football program. With this new chapter, there are now 16 public charter schools in the SCHSL, enriching the competition for everyone involved.

As the playoffs approach, fans are gearing up for what promises to be an exhilarating display of talent, determination, and sportsmanship. Best of luck to all competing teams!
