Six Undocumented Hondurans Charged with Murder in South Carolina

LANCASTER, South Carolina – Six undocumented immigrants from Honduras have been charged with the murder of 40-year-old Larisha Sharell Thompson, stemming from a shocking incident that occurred on May 2. The shooting took place while Thompson was driving down Riverside Road in Lancaster County, where she was killed during what authorities describe as a random robbery attempt.

Thompson was en route to meet friends in Rock Hill when the tragic event unfolded. The suspects, whose ages range from 13 to 21 years old, attempted to enter her locked vehicle after shooting her. They fled the scene shortly after being unable to gain access. The six individuals charged are Asael Aminadas Torres-Chirinos (21), Jarby Ardon Ramos-Odari (18), Jeyson Sobied Pineda-Salgado (17), along with three juveniles whose identities remain confidential due to their ages.

Sheriff Barry Faile pointed out that these individuals, whom he labeled as “individuals who weren’t supposed to be here,” had also committed a burglary at a nearby Van Wyck Mart store two days prior to Thompson’s murder. The criminal nature of their actions appears to be driven by monetary gain, with Sheriff Faile describing them as attempting to get “something for nothing.”

Evidence and Charges

Evidence linking the suspects to both crimes includes surveillance video and other digital materials. A firearm was recovered from Torres-Chirinos’s home, which matched ballistic evidence from both the murder and the burglary, leading to additional weapons charges against him. All six suspects currently face serious charges and are being held without bail. Three of the adults are in an adult jail, while the three juveniles are in custody with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.

As the case unfolds, prosecutors are deliberating whether to seek the death penalty for Torres-Chirinos based on the specifics of the case. Each suspect is entitled to representation by an appointed lawyer, although as of now, it is unclear who will represent them.

Immigration and Ongoing Investigation

In light of the suspects’ undocumented status, Lancaster County deputies have informed federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and an ICE hold is currently in effect for all six individuals, who may face deportation proceedings. Sheriff Faile also mentioned that the investigation is ongoing, particularly concerning the possibility of gang affiliations among the suspects.

The community and Thompson’s family are understandably devastated by the loss. The shooting has left her two children without a mother, resulting in an outpouring of grief and anger over this violent act. The South Carolina legal system will continue to proceed with necessary hearings, particularly for the juveniles, who are expected to appear in Family Court for required detention hearings.

Summary of Events

The tragic shooting of Larisha Sharell Thompson serves as a grim reminder of the violence that can affect neighborhoods. The actions of the six suspects not only altered the life of one family but have sparked a broader conversation about crime, immigration, and community safety in South Carolina. As authorities continue to gather further evidence and connections, the prosecution is expected to navigate through a complex legal landscape impacting the defendants as well as the victims in this case.
