Women’s Hoops Drops Hard-Fought Contest To High Point In Overtime In Home Finale

Winthrop University’s women’s basketball team faced a tough loss in their home finale against High Point in an overtime thriller on Wednesday night. The final score stood at 65-64 in favor of High Point, leaving Winthrop with a record of 13-15 overall and 7-8 in the Big South conference. High Point improved to 18-10 overall and 11-2 in the Big South.

The game started off slowly, with both teams struggling to find their offensive rhythm. Winthrop managed to take a slight lead in the first quarter, but High Point fought back in the second quarter to take a narrow lead going into halftime. The game remained tightly contested throughout the second half, with multiple lead changes and ties.

Despite Winthrop’s efforts to force overtime with a late jumper, High Point ultimately secured the victory with a basket in the final seconds of the extra session. Marissa Gasaway led Winthrop with an impressive performance, recording 18 points and 18 rebounds.
