York County Resident Accused of Child Solicitation
The tranquility of York County, South Carolina has been shattered by the arrest of a local man. The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office revealed that 48-years old Edward Todd Baines was booked last week on charges of child solicitation. The offenses reportedly involved solicitation of explicit actions and dissemination of indecent images.
The Charges
Baines is facing serious charges related to child exploitation. Specifically, he was charged with eight separate counts of criminal solicitation of a minor. This refers to incidents where an adult instigates, persuades, or lures someone under the age of 18 into engaging in illegal sexual acts. It is a felony offense carrying a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison for each count.
In addition to this, Baines was charged with two counts of attempted dissemination of obscene material to a person under age 18. This charge applies when someone knowingly displays or sends indecent materials to a minor. It is also a felony offense, punishable by up to 10 years in prison on each count.
Meticulous Investigation Leads to Arrest
Several agencies were involved in the investigation into these serious allegations. The York County Sheriff’s Office, the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and others worked together to bring these charges against Baines. Mount Pleasant Police ended up making the actual arrest.
Baines Released on Bond
After his arrest, Baines was granted a $130,000 total bond and subsequently released. The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
