ROCK HILL, S.C. — Three members of the Winthrop University volleyball team picked up Big South Conference weekly awards Monday after the Eagles won both of their matches last week in Rock Hill.
KeAra Bowen was named Player of the Week for the first time in her career, making her the second Winthrop player to earn that award this season. Lexi Thatcher took Setter of the Week for the fourth time this year, and Addison Torain was named Libero of the Week for the third time.
Bowen moved to middle blocker to cover for an injury and hit .528 for the week with 21 kills on 36 swings, the best percentage in the league by a full .100. She did not commit an error in a sweep of USC Upstate, finishing with 11 kills.
Thatcher handed out 53 assists, a season high and the most by anyone in a Big South match last week, as Winthrop outlasted UNC Asheville in five sets at Winthrop Coliseum. Her 89 total assists for the week led the conference.
Torain piled up 32 digs across the two matches and handled 31 serve receive chances without a miss. Her 17 digs against UNC Asheville lifted her past 500 for her career, to 512.
Paige Bennett led the Eagles with 17 kills in the five-set win, and Laila Glover added a season-high 16.
