ROCK HILL, S.C. — The doors of the FARMacy Community Farmstop in Rock Hill, S.C., open again on Saturday, Oct. 24, though only for one morning. From 9 a.m. until noon, the former produce store at 641 Crawford Road is giving away free boxes of fresh food, one box to each family, until the supply runs out.
Jonathan Nazeer, who operated FARMacy until it closed, is staging the giveaway with Limitless Community Development, a nonprofit based in Columbia that offers food and financial help in six counties. Nazeer sits on its board. He has said one handout will not solve the money squeeze families feel at the grocery store, but it can ease the load for a week.
Grocery prices nationwide are up 1.8 percent over the past year.
Nazeer and his wife, Crystal, started FARMacy in 2023 to bring healthy local food to a mostly Black neighborhood with no grocery store. A microburst in April 2024 damaged the building, and although it reopened months later, the store never regained its footing and shut down in April 2025.
The site sits on the same road as the Clinton College campus. Nazeer is asking the public for ideas on how the property could serve the neighborhood in the future.
