News Summary
The closure of Center Theatre Pizza has left Fort Mill residents reflecting on their beloved local spot. However, the town is also witnessing new developments as the Historic Review Board approves projects for revitalizing downtown. Plans to redevelop the former Kimbrell’s Furniture building into new business suites and improvements to Elisha Park hint at a vibrant future for Main Street. This article explores these transitions and the community’s optimism amidst change.
Closure of Center Theatre Pizza Sparks New Developments in Fort Mill’s Main Street
Fort Mill has been buzzing this week with news of a beloved local spot shutting its doors. Center Theatre Pizza & Ice Cream, located right on Main Street, has officially announced its closure. The popular eatery took to Facebook to thank the community for their incredible support over the last two years. Sadly, employees have received the news that the restaurant will not be reopening, and for those who had gift cards, a solution has been offered. Gift card holders can redeem their cards at Emmet’s Social Table, located in neighboring Waxhaw, North Carolina.
This location, known for its fun vibe and delicious offerings, transitioned from Emmet’s Social Table, a small plate restaurant, just last fall. So, this turn of events has left many feeling nostalgic and, yes, a little saddened. But hold onto your hats, because Fort Mill’s not letting this closure dampen the spirit of progress!
Exciting New Developments on the Horizon
Hot on the heels of this announcement, the town’s Historic Review Board held a meeting and made some exciting decisions. They unanimously approved two new business projects aimed at breathing fresh life into downtown Fort Mill.
One of these projects will see the redevelopment of the former Kimbrell’s Furniture building located at 232 Main St. Developer Growing Main has big plans for this space. The proposal includes creating five suites across two levels. There’s even talk of Treadstone Defensive Tactics as a potential tenant! Can you feel the excitement? Imagine what could be coming to our Main Street with this new activity!
To make way for the new tenants, the Historic Review Board has approved changes that involve removing an old loading ramp and adding in new entrances, stairwells, and a charming covered patio area. The Kimbrell’s site, built way back in 1956, has always held a significant place in the community, and its last sale was just three years ago, making this redevelopment a noteworthy event.
Growing Main first approached the Historic Review Board back in late 2022 to discuss potential tenants for this location, with hopes of attracting a restaurant or even a brewery in the future. For a thriving food scene, what could be better?
Sign Modifications and Other Community Improvements
The board didn’t stop with just Kimbrell’s, though. They also approved some exciting sign modifications for Mackey Realty at 106 Confederate St. This spot is conveniently located near the clothing boutique Vestique, which has set up shop in the former Fort Mill Times newspaper building. It’s great to see our historic locations being adapted for modern uses!
In addition to the commercial developments, there are some fantastic improvements taking place elsewhere in Fort Mill. Elisha Park is currently getting a facelift, with plans to replace the old asphalt trail with a sleek new concrete one. To top it off, a new playground and amphitheater are being added, making the park a perfect family destination.
Let’s not forget about the transformation of the former Springs Global office building into a new town hall. This renovation is bound to elevate the area’s significance and accessibility for town functions, further showcasing Fort Mill’s commitment to growth and community enhancement.
Fort Mill Flourishes as New Opportunities Arise
With all these developments taking place, Fort Mill is experiencing a resurgence in commercial activity. Residents can look forward to a busier, more vibrant downtown scene filled with new businesses and community engagements. Together, the closure of one beloved eatery paves the way for fresh new ventures that promise to keep the heart of Fort Mill beating strong.
So keep your eyes peeled and your spirits high, Fort Mill! Exciting times are ahead as we watch our beloved community evolve before our very eyes!
