The University of Wisconsin-Madison also announced plans for the Engineering EXPO 2025, promising educational enrichment for the community.

Madison Welcomes New Faces and Projects

Madison has made headlines recently with the return of a familiar news anchor and the groundbreaking of a new community library. Brandon Taylor has joined the evening team at 27 News, and the city has commenced construction on the Imagination Center at Reindahl Park.

Brandon Taylor Rejoins 27 News Evening Team

Brandon Taylor returned to 27 News in April 2023, where he will anchor the evening news on weeknights at 5, 6, and 10 p.m. This marks a homecoming for Taylor, a graduate of Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where he earned his degree in Communications and Journalism in 2007. He previously worked as the Wake Up Wisconsin anchor from 2014 to 2018 and expressed his enthusiasm for rejoining the 27 Newsroom.

Before his tenure at 27 News, Taylor began his career at a television station in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. His return is expected to resonate well with viewers familiar with his previous work in the area.

Groundbreaking of the Imagination Center

In a significant development for the local community, the city of Madison held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Imagination Center at Reindahl Park. This facility will serve as both a library and a community space on Madison’s east side, representing the first new library for the Madison Public Library system in over 25 years. Completion of the Imagination Center is anticipated by summer 2026.

The city’s Mayor emphasized the importance of libraries in fostering children’s literacy and community engagement. The Imagination Center is designed to be multifunctional, featuring both indoor and outdoor spaces, and aims to provide free Wi-Fi and public computers to enhance access to online resources.

This center will not only accommodate books and learning materials but also serve individuals of all ages for health, wellness, education, and other community needs. It will be the first library situated within a Madison park, highlighting the city’s commitment to enhancing community facilities.

Recent Incidents in Madison

In addition to these positive developments, Madison’s emergency services responded to several incidents. Early Monday morning, firefighters attended to a two-story apartment building on Taft Street after receiving a fire alarm around 12:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found smoke coming from a second-floor window. Six individuals were rescued, and fortunately, there were no injuries reported. However, seven apartment units were deemed uninhabitable, displacing eight adults and one dog. The Red Cross is providing assistance to the affected residents, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Police were also active in addressing public disturbances. Following a disturbance at a coffee shop on East Main Street, a woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to take a man’s belongings. The suspect, identified as Karen K. Hall, has been charged with disorderly conduct, battery to law enforcement, and resisting arrest. Hall was taken into custody and is currently in the Dane County Jail; the responding officer is expected to recover from minor injuries sustained during the incident.

Police Investigate Shooting Incident

Furthermore, Madison police responded to a shooting at the Kwik Trip gas station at 4402 East Buckeye Rd. on Tuesday evening. Multiple gunshots were reported by several passersby; however, by the time officers arrived, all involved individuals had left the scene. While an unrelated vehicle was struck by gunfire, no injuries were reported. Investigators are currently working to locate all parties connected to this shooting.

Upcoming Engineering Expo at UW-Madison

In another notable highlight, the University of Wisconsin-Madison announced plans to host the Engineering EXPO 2025. This event will invite the public to explore various engineering concepts, featuring interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, keynote speakers, and lab tours. Schools Day is scheduled for Friday, April 11, providing an opportunity for invited school groups to engage from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The expo will officially open to the public on Saturday, April 12, and is expected to showcase a space theme, including hands-on activities designed for families. This year’s expo marks the 85th anniversary of the event, which first launched in 1940.

The activities will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Engineering Campus, located at 1415 Engineering Drive in Madison, promising a weekend of educational enrichment for all attendees.
