Location
Newport sits in east-central Rock Hill in York County, mostly inside the city limits but with some area still in unincorporated York County. The CDP is centered around the Rock Hill/Newport area near the I-77 corridor and US-21, with downtown Rock Hill at Main Street and Caldwell Street a short drive to the west. York County places Rock Hill between the Broad River and the Catawba River, so Newport is in the county’s Catawba River side of the piedmont rather than near Lake Wylie.

Newport is a mostly postwar and late-20th-century residential area rather than an older mill district, with many streets lined by single-family houses on moderate lots and newer pockets mixed in.
