The National Weather Service (NWS) Wilmington, NC, made the announcement on Monday evening at 9:40 p.m.. This storm is expected to last until 10:30 p.m. tonight, causing many to take necessary precautions.

If you live in places like Shallotte, Iredell, Carolina Shores, Calabash, Makatoka, and several other small towns such as Freeland, Grissettown, Exum, and Bughill, you might want to stay indoors.

As the storm approaches, if you find yourself outdoors, it’s time to seek out shelter inside a sturdy building. The potential for lightning during a thunderstorm is not to be taken lightly. In fact, it strikes the U.S. around 25 million times each year, particularly in the summer months, leading to an average of 20 fatalities annually. When thunder rolls in, the danger from lightning increases tremendously.
