Winthrop Women’s Soccer Heads to Radford for Conference Opener
The Winthrop women’s soccer team is set to travel to Radford, Virginia, this Saturday for their initial conference road match of the season. The game against Radford is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (EST) at Tom Lillard Field.
Winthrop has an opportunity to achieve consecutive wins against Radford, a feat not accomplished since the 2006-2007 season. The Eagles currently hold a record of 3-5-1 overall and 0-1 in the Big South Conference, while Radford’s record stands at 2-5-1 overall and 0-0 in conference play.
Monssi Avila-Gutierrez leads the Eagles in scoring, having recorded four goals and eight points this year. Spencer Smith is in his 17th season as the head coach for Winthrop women’s soccer. The team was projected to finish sixth in the 2026 Big South Conference Preseason Poll.
Following this match, Winthrop will return home to host Longwood on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
