Rock Hill, S.C. — Rock Hill High School placed seventh with 156 points at the SCHSL Girls 5A State Swimming Championship on Thursday at the University of South Carolina, putting two York County teams in the top seven of a 26-team field.
Fort Mill won the team title with 491.5 points, finishing 19.5 points ahead of Eastside. Gray Collegiate Academy was third with 289.5, followed by J.L. Mann (269), Chapin (184) and Mauldin (167). River Bluff finished eighth, five points behind Rock Hill.
The team race hinged on relays, which paid double points. Fort Mill won two of the three relays, including the 200 medley and the closing 400 freestyle.
Emma Michael was Fort Mill’s only individual winner and took both the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Rock Hill did not have a top-three finish but scored in six individual events and all three relays.
York County’s showing left Fort Mill first and Rock Hill seventh in the 5A girls standings, a strong footprint for the county at the state meet.
Meet results from Thursday’s finals were published Friday across York County sports outlets covering both the Fort Mill title and Rock Hill’s seventh-place team finish.
