ROCK HILL, S.C. — The second round of the state high school football playoffs will be a crosstown affair in Rock Hill. The Rock Hill Bearcats, seeded ninth, will travel to face the top-seeded Northwestern Trojans on Friday, Nov. 13.
Rock Hill earned the trip with a 45-21 victory over Boiling Springs in the opening round on Friday night, a 24-point margin in the first postseason game of the year for the Bearcats.
Northwestern holds the No. 1 seed in its half of the bracket, which gave the Trojans home field for the second round. The South Carolina High School League has now set second-round pairings in all five classes, 5A down through 1A, across both the Upper State and Lower State brackets, with every game slated for Nov. 13.
Both programs belong to Rock Hill Schools, York County School District 3, and the matchup pits the city against itself with a season on the line. Northwestern counts Rock Hill High as its chief rival, so one of the two local schools will see its playoff run end next Friday night.
The winner keeps the city represented in the third round of the state playoffs.
