Voting location for Rock Hill Ward 2 special election June 2026

A special election to fill an unexpired term on the Rock Hill City Council is scheduled for June 2, 2026, for Ward 2, the York County government announced in April. Early voting is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at designated York County election locations.

The election fills a vacancy in the Ward 2 seat on Rock Hill’s seven-member City Council. Special elections in South Carolina are governed by the State Election Commission, and the City of Rock Hill’s election information is listed on the SC Votes website at scvotes.gov, which serves as the state’s official election resource.

Ward 2 encompasses portions of central Rock Hill, including areas around Charlotte Avenue and some of the city’s established inner neighborhoods. City Council representation matters significantly for Rock Hill residents because the council controls the city budget, development approvals, infrastructure investments, and the direction of the city’s economic development office, which has been active in attracting employers and overseeing projects like the Tech Park corporate campus and downtown revitalization.

Rock Hill’s seven-ward council structure means that each council member represents a geographic district, with an at-large mayor serving the entire city. The council meets regularly to address city business, including zoning matters, budget amendments, public safety appropriations, and utility infrastructure decisions.

The York County Elections office handles voter registration and election administration for all jurisdictions within the county, including Rock Hill’s city elections. Residents who are not yet registered can check their registration status or register at scvotes.gov. Registration deadlines typically fall 30 days before an election under South Carolina law.

Rock Hill’s city government has been active in recent years on several fronts, including negotiations around major development projects, infrastructure improvements, and public safety investments. The city works in partnership with York County Council on shared services and county-wide planning matters.

York County Council, which is a separate governmental body from the Rock Hill City Council, also meets regularly to address county-wide issues. The county council oversees unincorporated areas as well as services that span the entire county, including the York County Detention Center, the county road system, and county-wide emergency services management.

Candidates for the Ward 2 special election can be researched through the South Carolina Election Commission’s candidate listing database at vrems.scvotes.sc.gov. Candidate filing and qualification processes for special elections are administered through the SC Democratic Party, SC Republican Party, or through petition for unaffiliated candidates.
