York County attracted $3.5 billion in new capital investment in 2025 alone — driven by advanced manufacturing, aerospace, biotechnology, and high-performance computing. The county is home to BMW's largest manufacturing plant in the world in Greer, producing 1,500 vehicles per day with 11,000+ associates. Global headquarters for Denny's and Milliken & Company anchor the corporate base, while Michelin North America, ZF Chassis Systems, and Draexlmaier Automotive fuel a deep automotive supply chain across the Piedmont.
The I-85/I-26 interchange — nicknamed "the Autobahn" for its concentration of German manufacturers — connects Rock Hill to Greenville, Charlotte, and Atlanta along one of the fastest-growing economic corridors in the Southeast. The Greenville-Rock Hill International Airport (GSP) and South Carolina's first Inland Port make the county a logistics hub for East Coast distribution. More than 200 foreign-owned enterprises from 36 countries operate here.
From downtown Rock Hill's six-college campus and 19,000+ jobs within 1.5 miles of Morgan Square, to the manufacturing corridors of Duncan, Woodruff, and Boiling Springs, to new investments in aerospace (Woodward, Inc., $200M), AI computing (NorthMark Strategies, $2.8B), and 3D printing (AIRSYS Cooling Technologies, new global HQ) — business in York County is diversifying faster than at any point in its history.
HERERockHill tracks every layer of the Piedmont economy: corporate relocations, retail openings, restaurant launches, workforce trends, commercial real estate, small business growth in Inman, Chesnee, Landrum, Pacolet, and Campobello, and the government decisions that shape how businesses grow. BMW Group officials confirmed Thursday that construction will begin this fall on a major assembly line expansion at the Greer plant, adding a full EV production line and bringing total employment at the facility to more than 12,000. Gov. Henry McMaster joined plant leadership for the announcement at a ceremony attended by local business and civic leaders.
The company cited collaboration metrics and Q2 productivity data as drivers behind the decision, which affects approximately 340 corporate employees.
