The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles East Charlotte office will open at a new location on Wednesday, September 2, at 5525 Albemarle Road, Suite 200. State transportation officials announced this move on August 25. This relocation affects residents in the greater Charlotte metropolitan area, including those in Rock Hill who may utilize services across the state line.
The new office is approximately 1.5 miles from its previous site on Executive Circle, which closed on Wednesday, August 26. The new facility remains within two miles of the old location, aiming to maintain convenient access for area residents. Operating hours will continue to be Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with state holidays observed. Officials did not provide a reason for the relocation.
During the temporary closure, customers needing driver license services could visit one of four other nearby offices. These include Charlotte North at 9711 David Taylor Drive, Charlotte South at 201 W. Arrowood Road, Suite H, and Charlotte West at 6016 Brookshire Blvd. The Monroe office, located at 3122 U.S. Highway 74 W, also served as an alternative. All these alternate locations operate during the same hours as the relocated facility.
The NCDMV suggests that some driver license services, such as renewals, can be completed online, encouraging customers to check its website before making a trip. This move for one of the Charlotte metro area’s DMV locations comes as North Carolina prepares to introduce mobile driver’s licenses in the coming months. The new Albemarle Road office will serve the same customer base as the former Executive Circle location, ensuring continued accessibility for residents in the eastern part of Charlotte.
