ROCK HILL, S.C. — Rock Hill Republican Wes Climer has built a money lead of roughly five to one over Democrat Mallory Dittmer in the race for the open 5th Congressional District seat, with early voting for the Nov. 3 election set to open Monday.
Federal Election Commission reports through Sept. 30 show Climer, a state senator since 2016, took in $1,091,674 and spent $606,884, keeping $484,790 on hand. Dittmer, a Fort Mill resident running for office for the first time, reported $215,607 raised, $110,211 spent and $105,396 left. Neither side listed debt.
The two campaigns lean on different givers. About 30% of Climer’s haul came from political action committees and other candidate committees, while Dittmer has taken $1,100 from such groups. Small gifts of $200 or less made up 28% of Dittmer’s money from individuals, compared with 3% for Climer.
The winner replaces U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman, who has represented the district, covering all of York and Lancaster counties, since 2017.
Early voting statewide runs Monday, Oct. 19, through Saturday, Oct. 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and voters need a photo ID. In Rock Hill, early voting centers are set up at the Holiday Inn Rock Hill on Galleria Boulevard and the Clinton College library on Crawford Road, with more sites in York, Clover and Fort Mill.
