ROCK HILL, S.C. — Three newcomers will take seats on the Rock Hill school board after Tuesday’s election, since no sitting trustee sought any of the three open posts.
Zach Oxendine took Seat 2 with 50.42 percent, ahead of Holly Shook at 28.88 percent and Lamont Ratchford at 20.13 percent. Tyler Williams won Seat 4 with 48.14 percent over Sally Young, who drew 36.65 percent, and Jason Wilson, at 14.4 percent. For the at-large post, Matt Hiers finished with 53.85 percent against 45.48 percent for Seberina Barber Myles.
All of those totals are unofficial. York County’s voter registration and elections board will review provisional ballots and write-ins before a certification hearing set for 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6.
The winners will serve alongside Montrio Belton, Melissa Harris and Vice Chair Jennifer Hutchinson. One more seat will open soon: trustee James Burns won the State Senate District 15 race, so the board must appoint a replacement for his District 3 spot.
The district trails only Fort Mill in size within York County, and enrollment has slipped about 13 percent over ten years to under 16,000 students. Leaders also plan to study possible changes to high school attendance zones.
