ROCK HILL, S.C. — Piedmont Medical Network reported that its Rock Hill campus now holds Adult Level II trauma designation, a step that deepens critical-injury capacity for York, Lancaster and Chester counties.

Leaders described around-the-clock trauma staffing that includes continuous neurosurgery coverage, interventional radiology, and the ability to open an operating room within a quarter hour of a patient’s arrival when surgery is required.

Trauma Medical Director Dr. Carrie Watson said the Rock Hill site is the sole designated trauma hospital across those three counties. She put the campus trauma death rate at 4.2 percent, under the 7 percent figure she cited as the national Level II benchmark.

State trauma officials list Rock Hill Hospital under Piedmont Medical Center on the Adult Level II roster for the Midlands Region. The South Carolina Department of Public Health trauma-system page also spells out that designated centers must meet staffing, response-time, training and performance standards beyond a standard emergency department.

The campus sits at 222 S Herlong Ave. Network officials linked the upgrade to rapid regional growth and said they intend for advanced injury care to expand as the population rises.
