ROCK HILL, S.C. — Rock Hill High dropped to No. 10 in Class 5A in the SC Prep Media Poll released Tuesday, Oct. 13, after Boiling Springs climbed from No. 10 to No. 8 following its win over the Bearcats.
Dutch Fork remained No. 1 with 10 first-place votes, three points ahead of Northwestern, which collected eight first-place votes. Northwestern is 7-1 after beating then-No. 3 Dorman 35-19, and Dutch Fork is 7-0 after a 21-8 result against Chapin.
James Island moved up to No. 3 in the rest of the 5A ballot. With three weeks left in the regular season, only four teams remain unbeaten statewide, including Dutch Fork, Daniel, James Island and Strom Thurmond.
Northwestern High School Trojans and Rock Hill High School Bearcats both play in Rock Hill and sit among the city’s tier-one athletic programs. Northwestern’s climb toward the top of 5A puts a local rival in the thick of the Class 5A race while Rock Hill rebuilds after the Boiling Springs setback.
Since head coach Tom Knotts arrived at Dutch Fork in 2010, the Silver Foxes have posted multiple undefeated seasons and improved to 51-2 in region play since 2015, a backdrop for the tightest No. 1 voting of the year.
