ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police say a woman, 37, was killed Monday evening when a pickup truck hit her as she walked across Cherry Road in Rock Hill, the Rock Hill Police Department said.
The 500 block of Cherry Road is where it happened, at about 6:30 p.m. Officers said she was crossing away from a marked crosswalk and was dressed in dark clothes when the truck struck her. She died before she could be taken from the scene.
The driver did not leave. Police said the driver stopped after the impact and pulled into a parking lot close by, so investigators are not treating the case as a hit-and-run.
Members of the department’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team, known as the STAR Team, worked the scene Monday night and are still piecing together how the crash happened. The York County Coroner’s Office also responded and has not released her name.
No charges had been announced as of early Wednesday.
