Location
Sunset Park sits in west-central Rock Hill around Ogden Road and nearby neighborhood streets, north of downtown Rock Hill’s Main Street and Caldwell corridor and not far from the city’s older core. It is within the Rock Hill city area in York County and is closer to the western Rock Hill highway network than to Lake Wylie; US-21 and I-77 are the main regional routes nearby, with I-77 access at the Rock Hill exits to the north and east. The neighborhood is also within the broader Manchester Creek basin on the west side of the city.
Character
Sunset Park is a small-scale residential area with houses that, from current listings, include late-1950s brick ranch homes and other modest single-family houses. A recent listing at 817 Ogden Road described a full-brick ranch built in 1958, which fits the neighborhood’s older, low-rise pattern. The streets are narrow and local rather than through-routes, with mature trees and simple front yards; driving through, a visitor sees detached homes set close to the street and very little commercial development inside the neighborhood.
History
The neighborhood’s history appears tied to postwar Rock Hill residential growth rather than to a large planned subdivision or mill village, and the available listing record points to homes built in the late 1950s. Rock Hill’s older growth pattern was shaped by the textile era and downtown commercial core, while the west side later filled in with smaller residential streets as the city expanded outward. For Sunset Park itself, the clearest documented origin is the 1950s construction era reflected in surviving houses such as the 1958 brick ranch on Ogden Road.
