India Hook peninsula sits in northeast Rock Hill in the 29732 ZIP, centered around India Hook Road and Mount Gallant Road and close to the India Hook precinct polling place at India Hook UMC on Mount Gallant. It is roughly 5 miles from downtown Rock Hill at Main Street and Caldwell Street, with the nearest major highway access on I-77 via the Celanese/Herlong or Dave Lyle corridor. The area is on the Rock Hill side of the Catawba basin, with Lake Wylie to the north and west and Manchester Creek and nearby creeks draining toward the river system.

The neighborhood is a mix of older lake-adjacent homes, mid-century ranch houses, and later subdivision builds rather than a single housing type. Streets tend to be curving and partly wooded, with moderate lot sizes, mature trees, and lower walkability than downtown Rock Hill; a driver usually sees detached houses, driveways, and occasional water-facing properties instead of continuous sidewalks or commercial frontage. In the parts closest to Lake Wylie, the housing pattern shifts toward larger custom homes and lake-access properties.
History
India Hook developed as a Rock Hill-area lakeside and suburban district rather than as a standalone mill village. Its modern growth is tied to the postwar expansion of Rock Hill and later annexation of outlying parts of northern York County into the city; the broader area also reflects the county’s shift from railroad- and textile-centered growth to suburban development. The name persists in precinct and school geography, including India Hook Elementary School and the India Hook voting precinct, but the area does not have the dense catalog of named historic structures seen in Rock Hill’s downtown historic district.
